Modular, High-Power Battery Pulsed Power System
Power systems are increasingly important in government and commercial applications, such as vehicles, information technology, space technology, and to maintain battlefield dominance. To realize their full potential and to meet anticipated needs of the Air Force, advances in power systems are needed, to include energy storage and its conversion/regulation. There is a need for a domestic source for battery systems and components to create a secure supply chain necessary to support novel systems being planned for the field. The Air Force needs various levels of pulsed input power to produce a variety of energy pulses for various applications.
CRG is developing – in partnership with Spear Power Systems – a modular high-power battery pulsed power system. The scope of the effort includes the design and demonstration of a battery power system supporting airborne, ground, and/or stationary systems for the Air Force. The battery power system includes a high-power battery cell, energy storage battery module, and power control system. The goals of this effort are to reduce the size and weight of the power system and provide a domestic supply chain of critical components required to field future airborne, ground, and stationary systems.
