Update on Space Compatible Anechoic Technologies Retrofit
The Space Compatible Anechoic Technologies Retrofit (SCATR) project is developing an anechoic absorber that can be installed into space simulation chambers. SCATR will provide the DoD to conduct realistic radio frequency testing in a space environment, a current gap in space Test and Evaluation capabilities. The result of phase 1 efforts will be presented where candidate materials were evaluated based on their radio frequency performance, vacuum compatibility, resistance to atomic oxygen and other charged particles, and durability to temperature cycling. Phase 1 was primary focus was on analytical results and down selection of materials, however some experimental results will be shown due to lack of available data to support detailed analysis. In Phase 2 SCATR will conduct experimental validation on the candidate materials and develop a preliminary design for retrofitting a space simulation chamber.
